Preventive fillings for cavities
What is pit and fissure sealing? What role does it play for permanent teeth?
Pit and fissure sealing is a method that uses filling material to fill the pits and fissures on the chewing surfaces of children's permanent teeth to reduce food deposits on the chewing surface, making it easier for children to clean their teeth and preventing early cavities.
Sealing technique and sealing procedure at Kha Dental
The sealing technique should be indicated and performed as early as possible, when the first large molar has just erupted and its chewing surface is fully exposed in the mouth (age 6), and when the second large molar has fully erupted in the mouth (age 12).
Sealing procedure:
Step 1: In-person examination of the child's dental condition and consultation
The doctor examines the condition of each of the child's teeth, plans the sealing and chooses a suitable sealing material.
Step 2: Cleaning the teeth and sealing the pits and fissures
The doctor cleans the child's teeth first, then treats the enamel, applies the sealant and cures it with a light. The doctor will also lightly adjust the sealed tooth if there is a high spot
Step 3: Oral hygiene guidance + follow-up
The doctor gives the child oral hygiene guidance and schedules regular follow-ups to ensure loosened sealants or early-stage new cavities are detected and treated in time.
