What Is Teeth Whitening?
Teeth whitening is a non-invasive tooth whitening method that uses peroxide compounds to oxidize the pigments in the dentin, giving you a naturally bright white smile.
A common question is whether teeth whitening hurts and whether it damages enamel. As explained, whitening uses the redox reaction of peroxide to eliminate the color molecules in the dentin. When the whitening agent penetrates into the dentin it affects the pulp nerve, causing pain that lasts 1–2 seconds, and with a whitening time of 45 minutes over 3 rounds, there is not enough time to affect the organic framework of the enamel and damage it. However, if the whitening agent is left on the teeth for too long, the organic framework of the enamel can be affected and cause white spots on the enamel.
In which cases can teeth be whitened?
Teeth whitening is suitable for people over 18 whose teeth have darkened or turned deep yellow from food, tobacco, tea and coffee.
In which cases should teeth not be whitened?
Children under 18
Pregnant and breastfeeding women
People who are overly sensitive or allergic to the whitening agent ingredients
People with periodontitis or tooth decay
Teeth darkened by pulp necrosis
Fluorosis-stained teeth
Should You Whiten Your Teeth? 4 Benefits to Consider
Teeth whitening is trusted by many people on their “smile renovation” journey for these advantages:
Improves dull tooth color: Whitening works by creating a chain of oxidation reactions that break the bonds of color proteins, lightening the yellow and brown in enamel and making teeth whiter.
Removes yellow stains on teeth: The oxidation during whitening helps remove yellow patches and long-standing plaque on teeth, giving you clean, naturally bright white teeth.
More confidence with bright white teeth: After improving tooth color and removing yellowing, your teeth become naturally bright white. This helps you feel more confident when smiling or communicating with the people around you.
No pain or discomfort during whitening: Whitening is performed gently without invasive procedures on the teeth, so soreness and discomfort are limited and sensitivity is minimized.

Step 2
Scaling

Step 3
Teeth whitening
Step 1: Examination and recording of the initial dental condition (color, cavities, periodontitis…)
You will be examined in person by the doctor, who records the initial condition of your teeth and predicts the color after whitening so you can visualize the treatment result.
Step 2: Scaling
The doctor scales and polishes to completely remove plaque and tartar before applying the whitening agent to the tooth surface. This helps the agent penetrate better and the treatment result be more perfect.
Step 3: Teeth whitening
The doctor will cover the gums with a layer of light-cured hard resin to prevent the agent from touching the gum area during whitening. The assistant then helps apply the agent to the entire outer surface of the teeth and changes the agent every 15 minutes. After 2 changes, you will be shown your tooth color. If you are satisfied, the doctor stops the whitening; otherwise one more round of whitening is done.
